Everyone was a beginner once…
Joining a Karate for Kids class for the first time is simple.
- Take a Free Trial class
- Sign up and start training
At Karate for Kids we don’t ask our students or parents to sign a contract and we don’t promise to get you to the black belt level in a year. Karate is an activity to be enjoyed with no pressure on the student to reach a level/grade in a set period of time. You will improve in your own time with the guidance and assistance of the specialist karate instructor and your classmates.
As a new student at Karate for Kids you are asked to be respectful, polite and nice to your classmates. Improvement and any new grade will come with time and practice. Your instructor and your classmates will help you along the way. They have all been in your position once and they all understand what it’s like to be “the new kid”.
Here are some questions you might have:
What do I wear?
For your first class you don’t need a karate suit (unless you have one already).
You should wear loose fitting sports clothes like:
- track pants, cotton pants, cricket pants, leggings or shorts
- tee shirts or short sleeved polo shirts
- NO SHOES or socks
What do I do when I get to the hall?
It is good to arrive about 10 minutes before your class starts so you can have a look around.
You might even see some kids you already know.
Please leave your shoes and bag at the door.
Do I need to bring anything to my first class?
Always bring a drink bottle with water in it. No fizzy drinks or sports drinks please. It is a good idea to also bring a jumper or jacket, even in summer. Make sure your name is on everything.
If you leave things behind Sensei will put them in the storeroom and you can collect them next week.
What if I don't like the training and I don't want to join?
No problem. Not everyone likes trying something new. If you have a trial lesson and decide it’s not what you want then we hope to see you in the future.
Please let Sensei Caroline know if you are going to join or not.
What can I expect in my first class?
In your first class you can expect to learn how to punch and kick correctly. You will also be shown some karate wearm up exercises. The Sensei will look after you and make sure you are paired with an appropriate partner if you do any partner work. It doesn’t take long to learn how to do the techniques like punch, kick, block and step and the Sensei always makes sure you don’t get left behind.
What do I do now?
Once you join Karate for Kids you will be sent an enrolment form, which you must complete before participating in your next class. You will also receive an invoice for your first term of training. You will also receive:
- Karate suit and a white belt
- Dojo badge for your suit
- A pair of protective hand mitts that you will need for class (Not supplied to Ninja students)
- Training for the term
- Public Liability insurance (required for all extra curricular sports)
- Membership to Karate for Kids
Can I join mid-term?
If I join mid-term how much do I have to pay?
You will be invoiced for the Enrolment pack and the insurance according to the term in which you join. You will also be billed for the remaining classes for the term in which you join.
We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!
