Our new boxing classes in Gordon gives boys and girls the best aspects of boxing training, focusing on non-contact exercises and partner work. These classes will get your kids skipping, running, jumping, punching bags, and working with a partner to improve hand-eye coordination, strength, and increasing their overall fitness.
The classes are run by Sensei Marc who is also a qualified Boxing Coach. His favourite catch-phrases when describing his non-contact boxing classes are “get fit without getting hit” and “punch the shield, not each other”. The classes teach kids various boxing drills using correct technique in a safe and fun environment. Our kids and junior boxing classes are a great way for kids to get into shape, develop better balance, footwork, hand-eye coordination, self discipline and build confidence.
Marc is a qualified Boxing Coach and has been teaching boxing since 2001 so he has plenty of experience. Non-Contact boxing offers the same benefits as karate – developing self confidence, increased strength and fitness and practical self defence.
Our Non-Contact Boxing classes focus on:
- Self Confidence
- Partner work
- Bag work
- Boxing skills
- Practical Self Defence
BOXING – 6pm – 7pm, Gordon
Q: WHAT IS NON-CONTACT BOXING
A: You may have seen Non Contact Boxing advertised as “Boxercise” or “Box-Fit”. They are all basically the same – an exercise class based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. No class ever involves the physical hitting of an opponent so it is a fun, challenging and safe workout.
Q: WHAT DO YOU DO IN A NON-CONTACT BOXING CLASS
A: Generally a class consists of using the skipping rope to develop aerobic fitness, learning footwork, which increases your balance, learning the correct way to stand, punch and move. It is a physical workout, which includes a mixture of balance, quick movements and focus. Students work with each other and they also use the focus bags. Sensei Marc keeps an eye on everyone, gives help where it is needed and makes sure everyone is encouraged and leaves the class with a sense of achievement.
Q: IS IT SAFE
A: Totally! No one hits anyone else so you get all the benefits of a rigorous boxing workout without getting into the ring.
Q: HOW WILL NON-CONTACT BOXING HELP ME?
A: Non Contact Boxing is a great way of releasing your aggression or pent up frustrations that you might be carrying with you through the day. As you don’t actually “hit” anyone you can’t hurt anyone. Like Karate, Boxing also works on increasing your personal discipline, building your self-esteem, developing focus and concentration and respect.
Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS
A: a) The number one benefit of Non Contact boxing is that it is a fantastic form of exercise. It is physically demanding so you develop strength and stamina.
- Sensei Marc incorporates Practical Self Defence into his boxing classes
- Boxing is a good way to relieve stress in a positive way
- To learn the mechanics of boxing a student must be controlled and disciplined.
- Boxing training can help increase your overall strength
- You will also see an improvement in your self-esteem and your confidence.
Q: WILL NON-CONTACT BOXING AFFECT MY KARATE TRAINING?
A: By participating in the Non Contact Boxing classes you will actually see an improvement in your karate training – just ask the 3 students who are now doing boxing and karate with Sensei Marc. Your fitness will improve and your focus will increase so boxing is a good activity to do as well as your karate.
Q: WILL I GET INJURED?
A: No. Sensei Marc watches his Boxing students like a hawk so there is never any chance of getting hit. He also makes sure you wear the correct “hand wraps” that are vital for good hand protection.
Q: IS IT FUN?
Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
A: loose fitting clothes like shorts and a tee shirt or leggings or track pants. Wear your normal sports shoes so something with a good sole and something that fits you well and doesn’t pinch your toes.
Q: DO I NEED MY OWN GLOVES
A: Marc has spare gloves if you want to give it a go first but once you decide to join it is wise to get your own gloves. Marc will give you advice on what to get (10oz is usually the best size for children). We have found the best gloves for these classes are found at Rebel Sports. They are called Sting ArmaLite and cost about $30. You will need your own hand wraps. Marc has them at the gym and they cost $12 per set. If you want to get them from Rebel make sure you get the shorter ones. You only need about 1.5m in length.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
A: If you do the boxing and karate classes you are given a 10% discount plus you only pay once for Public Liability insurance ($80 per year).
If you want to only do Boxing you will be charged the Public Liability insurance + $200 for the term.
Boxing Pay As You Go: No upfront Public Liability insurance fee but training is $25 per class.
Q: CAN I TRY IT FIRST?
A: Of course! Contact Sensei Caroline so she knows you will be coming and then have a class for free. Once you’ve had your free class let her know if you want to join so she can arrange this with Marc.
Q: CAN MY MUM/DAD COME TOO?
A: While we are building the classes we are saying YES to Mum and Dad coming along with you. When we reach maximum class size we will be running a separate Mum and Dad class.
Q: WHERE IS IT HELD?
A: Marc runs the boxing classes in a new Gym in Gordon. It is fully fitted out with focus mitts, hanging boxing bags, wall mounted focus pads, skipping ropes and rubber mats on the floor.
