Sempai Denise joined us in Term 1, 2018 and assists with the younger students in the West Lindfield dojo. She is a happy and friendly person with a lovely, positive manner and is a great asset to our karate school.
A recent school leaver she has had a long and varied employment history throughout her school life including being a Founding Member of SCHN KiDS, a Research Advisory Group at the Children’s Hospital, Westmead where she worked on developing team work skills and promoting clinical research for young children. She was a volunteer carer with The Sony Foundation: ABBOX of fun where she participated in the support of children with disabilities and worked on building team work and developing self confidence. She has worked in her local Newsagency, volunteered for Red Shield Appeal and volunteered as an assistant carer for geriatric residents at Tallwoods Nursing and Aged Care. She volunteered as a Swim Instructor with the Learn To Swim programme and has also done some volunteer work in her local Library.
She brings another very valuable skill to Karate for Kids with her ability to communicate in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. A number of our parents and grandparents are non-English speakers so Denise is onboard to assist with explaining a few things to them in their native tongue.
Great to have you with us, Denise!
